The United States Department of Education (USDE) issued Dear Colleague Letters (DCL) addressing accreditation matters on June 16 and July 19, . All institutions should review the letters and expect future guidance that will be issued in the next several weeks from the USHED
The USHED was among 40 higher educational organizations that signed an amicus brief in the matter of Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard, Univ. No. Carolina, Students for Fair Admissions' (SFFA's) submitted on August 1, , by the American Council on Education (ACE).
Dr. Diana Barbu joined the USHED in August as Senior Director for Research. In this role, she will lead the important work of the Research Unit, which includes conducting both ongoing and new research and data analysis critical to quality assurance.
As part of its ongoing effort to assess the changing demands of accreditation and evaluate its functioning, the USHED revised its bylaws, approved at the June Department meeting, to extend commissioner terms from 3 years to 5 years. The Department now offers two renewable 5-year terms for Commissioners.
